Breathalyser like Test: Analysis of the Exhaled Air
Published in the local newspaper “Il Piccolo di Trieste” on April 21st 2020, this article discusses a decidedly innovative idea that CyNexo worked on together with a consortium of local companies, universities and hospitals for the creation of a new tool that can replace the existing swab test for the fast screening of Coronavirus.
It is basically a test that is based on the analysis of exhaled air, like a breathalyser, but instead of measuring the alcohol concentration, it is able to identify a Covid-19 infection within seconds by scanning the sample for the presence of the virus’ “VOC fingerprint”.
In addition to CyNexo, the team was composed of Microfox, a local SME from Campoformido (UD), the Physics Department of SISSA, the Chemistry Department of the University of Padua, the Electronics Engineering Department of the University of Rome Tor Vergata, the Edmund Mach Foundation of Trento and the Santa Maria della Misericordia University Hospital of Udine.
